Andrea is the Chair of the Litigation Department and represents companies and individuals across Oregon and Washington in business and shareholder disputes, commercial actions, construction litigation, and related complex civil disputes. Andrea enjoys collaborating with clients to develop practical, strategic solutions tailored to each client’s unique goals and circumstances to achieve the best possible outcome.

Andrea is committed to providing exceptional advocacy and to achieving results that best protect her clients’ interests, both in and out of court. She recognizes that many disputes can be resolved efficiently and favorably through mediation or negotiations, without filing a lawsuit. When a matter requires a third party to decide the outcome, Andrea has the courtroom experience to lead clients through every stage of the process, including motion hearings, arbitrations, administrative hearings, and trial.    

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Andrea practiced as an accountant for a construction-based supplier, an experience that gives her a unique perspective on business operations, and the challenges faced by companies in the construction industry.

Commercial Litigation

  • First chair trial counsel for LLC member in a jury trial against former LLC members on claims of breach of contract and declaratory relief. Obtained jury verdict for full amount of claims, and successfully defended against the opposing parties’ appeal to the Oregon Court of Appeals.
  • Prosecuted an individual inventor’s trade secret claims against a national retailer in federal court.
  • Represented corporate client against former corporate officer on claims for misappropriation of trade secrets, conversion, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and declaratory judgment.
  • After a seven-day federal jury trial, obtained a complete defense verdict representing an insurance brokerage firm and newly hired employee against a competitor who sought over $10 million in damages for alleged breaches of non-solicitation and confidentiality provisions in an employment agreement, as well as tortious interference with contractual relations.

Construction/Real Estate Litigation

  • Successfully represented a commercial contractor in a breach of contract and construction lien foreclosure matter. The matter involved a commercial property owner that claimed its agent did not have the authority to bind the owner to a contract. As a result of our representation, the client obtained an arbitration award for the full amount of the claim.
  • Obtained summary judgment on a delinquent borrower’s wrongful foreclosure action.
  • Represented numerous property owners in boundary line disputes.
  • Regularly represents contractors and property owners pursuing and defending against construction lien claims in Oregon and Washington courts.

Employment Litigation

  • As lead counsel, secured a complete victory for a global professional services client by obtaining summary judgment on an employee’s gender and disability discrimination claims under both federal and Washington law. The court’s ruling dismissed all claims in favor of the employer.

Railroad

  • Defends railroads against Federal Employers’ Liability Act claims in both state and federal court.
  • Counsels railroads and developers on industry-specific disputes.

General Litigation

  • First chair trial counsel in a jury trial for wrongful death claim. Obtained verdict for wrongful death and award of damages.
  • Defended railroad clients in workplace injury claims brought under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA)

Pro Bono Matters

  • Assisted numerous clients obtain Family Abuse Prevention Act (FAPA) restraining orders, Elderly Persons and Persons with Disabilities Abuse Prevention Act (EPPDAPA) restraining orders, and stalking protection orders.

Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Andrea has a deep love for the Pacific Northwest and everything it offers. When the clouds roll in a little too long (as they sometimes do!), you’ll find Andrea chasing sunshine somewhere new, whether that’s a beach getaway or an adventure abroad. Closer to home, Andrea can be found on the softball diamond, competing with the Sussman Shank team and enjoying the camaraderie that comes with it. Community is at the heart of who Andrea is, and that same spirit of connection and care shows up in everything she does, both personally and professionally.
