Representative Cases
Long Term Care Facility Creditors' Rights

A former long term care facility resident, now deceased, owed a large amount of debt to the facility for care provided by the facility.  There were not enough assets in the decedent's estate to pay all of his creditors.  Laurie assisted the facility in asserting its right to payment ahead of the other creditors of the estate.  As a result of Laurie's efforts, the client received full payment of its claim from the estate.

Insurance Coverage

A client of the firm tendered a claim to its insurance company.  The insurance company wrongfully denied coverage.  Laurie assisted the client in a coverage lawsuit against the insurance company.  The case went to trial.  The trial court awarded judgment for over $650,000 in favor of the client and against the insurance company.

Motion to Dismiss

Laurie filed and argued a successful motion to dismiss a complaint seeking $3,775,000 on the grounds the plaintiff's purported damages were confidential and, therefore, could not be alleged or proved in the lawsuit.

Release of Invalid Lien Claim

A contractor recorded an invalid lien claim against Laurie's client's property.  Laurie assisted the client to get the lien removed from the real property records.  As a result of Laurie's extensive knowledge and experience, the client paid no money to the contractor who released the invalid lien claim.

Appeals Defense

Laurie has successfully defended several appeals in the Washington Court of Appeals, Oregon Court of Appeals, and the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
